Four Farms to Visit Near Winterport

After nearly two years of pandemonium caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have so much for which to be grateful. I’m thankful for life, health, family and of course, Crooked Steeple Hall and all our wonderful guests.

I’m also thankful for how blessed we are at Crooked Steeple to live close to farmers who produce quality food for us to nourish our bodies on Thanksgiving and every other day of the year. These farms employ ethical practices, are members of our community and they make a delicious addition to your itinerary on your visit to Winterport, Maine.

Good Food Farm

Good Food Farm is located on Mount Waldo Road in Frankfort, Maine. Go for the organic-fed, pastured chicken, turkey and lamb, and free-range eggs they have for sale but stay for the spectacular views.

The trailhead to Mt Waldo is located near Good Food Farm so you can plan for the moderate hike up Mt Waldo and then purchase your items from Good Food Farm after you’ve had your fill of the awesome views.

Calkins Farm

Calkins Farm, located in Hampden, Maine, has been a staple in the community since 1924 and is run by fourth-generation Calkins family members today.

They grow a variety of organic seasonal fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers on a 30-acre farm just behind their farm stand.

Calkins also retails fresh eggs and local products like maple syrup, honey and homemade jam and is the best place to pick up your pumpkins for fall.

Fisher Farm

Fisher Farm is located just up the road from Crooked Steeple. We often recommend them to brides wanting to create their own bouquets and flower decor.

But besides flowers, Fisher Farm also grows and sells organic fruits and vegetables. You can make an afternoon out of walking the farm and seeing how an organic farm operates.

If you live nearby, you can join the community-supported agriculture (CSA) program. When you join the Fisher Farm CSA, you receive a share of the weekly harvest throughout the season in exchange for your financial support.

If you don’t live in Winterport, you can always look for a CSA in your city.  It’s an excellent incentive for including more fresh fruit and veggies in your diet.

Souder Station Farm

We love Souder Station Farm because of its commitment to raising happy, healthy, pastured animals and because they’re located right here in Winterport.

Try their pork sampler box. It’s loaded with all kinds of yummy sausages, nitrate-free bacon, ribs, pork chops, ham and a roast.

We love sharing all the things we love about Maine and especially our town of Winterport with you. Subscribe to our newsletter to stay updated on our newest posts and latest offers at Crooked Steeple Hall.
