Things to Do in Abbott Park, Winterport
I love spending time in nature, either by myself or with my favorite people.. From the fresh flowers of spring to the range of hues in fall, each season has its own unique kind of natural beauty and I can’t get enough. I might be a little biased but I think you’ll agree... Winterport doesn’t disappoint when it comes to nature. There’s natural beauty all around.
One of my favorite nature parks is Abbott Park, located just across the street from our 1812 Pierce House holiday rental property and a short walk from Crooked Steeple Hall. Abbott Park is a natural local gem, and we are so fortunate to have it located a stone’s throw away from us.
If walking is your thing, Abbott Park has a few trails for you to enjoy. If you’d rather explore or forage through the woods, Abbott Park will not disappoint. History buffs will also enjoy scoping out the Park’s old stone walls and other features.
If you’re visiting Winterport, Maine and you’re staying with us at Pierce House, or anywhere else for that matter, Abbott Park should definitely be on your itinerary. Here are a few suggestions for how you can spend your time at Abbott Park:
Early morning walk
After a cosy night at Pierce House, throw on your workout clothes, grab your headphones, select your favorite Spotify playlist and hit up one of the trails at Abbott Park. You’ll enjoy the early morning vitamin D and the sounds and sights of nature in complete tranquility. Pure bliss.
Scavenger Hunt
On vacation with the family? Plan a scavenger hunt for the kids or kids-at-heart. They’ll have fun learning, exploring and competing to win. All you need is a list of items for the kiddos to collect as you walk through the park and bags for storing the treasures.. Examples of items to collect are pine cones, stones, leaves, twigs, feathers and acorns.
After you’ve worked up an appetite from all that scavenging, you’ll be ready for a picnic.
Picnic
We have a fully-outfitted kitchen over at Pierce House but we know that doesn’t mean you want to cook on your vacation, right? No worries. Winterport has lots of delicious local food options to ensure you put together a picnic to remember. Check out some of our favorite foodie spots here and here.

Are you into photography? You can walk with your fancy camera but your phone camera would more than do the job of capturing wildlife, flora and fauna as you explore the park.
